CULT: growth under the weeds...could this be pineappling?

So I was out pulling the grass back off my iris rows. (I dunno what kinda
grass it is but it spreads by runners, so it wasn't like I was pulling up
sod..) My newly planted rhizome of BEG TO DIFFER was in a particularly
densly weedy section... When I pulled back the grass I noticed a new
increase, pleased but not surprised I pulled off the two dry leaves on the
original fan...

That completely eliminated what was left of the original fan (my notes say
it had six leaves when it arrived) but revealed 4-5 more miniscule fans.
(INSIDE the original fan....)
Each is differentiated from the next, each with 3-4 leaves, none taller than
3 inches.

Is that what y'all mean by pineapple rhizomes?

on another note.... It's official, I prefer the small skinny rhizomes.....
for growth anyway. I received as a freebie SHORELINE with one totally
dried leaf on a finger type rhizome. Planted Aug 4 it is now a 6" tall fan
with five leaves and an increase..... an appropriate distance away....
