Late blooming irises don't do well in Phoenix, AZ. They burn in our intense
heat, often before the buds open. I have tried a number of late beauties that
disapointed me. Some I have brought up to our mountain cabin, Zone 6, where
they are doing very well. Late bloomers I can't grow in the heat:
Dusty Challenger
Amiable
Brazilian Holliday
Braggadossio
American Classic
I don't really know if American Classic is late or not. It has never bloomed
for me, and barely stayed alive in the hot country. I brought its last
remaining tiny rhizome up to the cabin in July, and it has already made a
better clump than in the four years I have babied it. I hope to see it next
year.
