Re: fragrant rhizome

I wonder if that is the same odor of Orris Root that is grown and processed
commercially in Europe. The main source of Orris Root is apparently I.
pallida, and I think 'Pink Ruffles' has a lot of I. pallida in its
ancestry.

I need to start paying more attention to smells!

I've never notice a sweet odor from Iris roots or tubers, and I've dug a
lot of I. pallida and some I. albicans and 'Florentina' (other Orris Root
plants). Not sure if I would have noticed though, without paying attention
for it.

I have noticed rather pungent odors from some other Iris tubers, but I
never kept track of which ones. Most notably those with rot, but I don't
think that counts.

Anyone else out there paying more attention than me?

Dave
