Re: Re: CULT: potting

Pro-Mix is the BEST media I have ever used. When I had my greenhouse in AR
that was the only product I used for all my seedlings, plants. . house plants,
virtually everything. Roots take hold and grow well, drainage is excellent and
the plants thrive. There are no nutrients in this mix. . so fertilization is
necessary at the appropriate time. I use only fish emulsion or a kelp/fish
emulsion mixture. Depending upon what I am potting, I may add some compost to
the Pro-Mix, especially in the case of potting on a mature plant.
Presently I have 15-20 Arilbred, Regalia and AB's potted and within 5 days
they have developed tiny roots!

I get a couple of cubic feet worth of Pro-Mix and pot into 3, 4, 6 inch
  containers until I drop.

It is light, a mix of peat and perlite. That is my primary concern.
I've found that 'clients' buy many more irises at the club sales in
spring when they discover that they can actually carry more than two.

I don't worry about fertilizer, I worry more about making sure the
entire root ball can be popped out of the pot about an hour after it's
  purchased.
