***(Regardless of Copywrite laws)***
I have always stated that anyone can use any of the pictures I post on iris
photos for any reason, at any time, and for any purpose without my consent --
ever.
I personally believe that if I post them (knowing full well that they can be
lifted by anyone, at any time, and for any reason), then I should not be
surprised. I am a realist. If I don't want it lifted, I don't post it, or I
just post it at a low resolution.
I also personally believe, that my main reason for posting photos is to share
and spread the joy of iris and educate the public. If someone lifts a photo I
posted for an iris sale or whatever...then, SUCCESS!!!
I am not a professional photographer, I am an iris hobbyist. Not once did I
ever take a photo with the idea in mind to make money off it. Even if someone
WERE able to make money off it, then good for them. It is not like I could
not have done the same thing myself with my pictures... (Now, I would
question the ethics of any large company that would lift a photo to sell
thousands of dollars of irises of the variety in the photo. A company that
large should know better. However, if it is a little Mom and Pop garden,
heck...the use of the photo is being used to spread the joy of iris more than
any money it makes.)
With the above attitude, you can imagine how elated I am when someone actually
does ask to use any of my iris photos. I am honored.
At times I have given whole series of photos to people to use as they wish,
and then all of a sudden, I find it published in a newsletter or on a website.
I am then not only honored but elated that someone would think MY photo was
good enough to use.
That exact thing happened recently, and my photo of Crowned Heads in now on
the AIS Website Homepage, and I couldn't be happier! That kind of joy to me
is worth much more than money!
