John (or anybody else who knows),
As a matter of policy (and maybe law ?), are the written text of
posts on mailing lists also considered to be personal
'property'?
When I use various threads from iris lists in the publication I
edit, I do secure the permission of the author....I used to just
ask a blanket permission but now I send exactly what I am going
to quote to the author. I have only received one answer in the
negative and that was because the person wanted to refine his
words.
Money aside (and I mean that :-), it is just common courtesy to
ask even though I don't necessarily agree with the copyright law
as I understand it re mailing lists or copyright in general.
Ellen (the late Elvis and Sinatra's families still getting $$$
after all these years....)
