I got the 90% perlite from the Bacto website. I think they said their
Bacto Lite is 85 to 90% perlite, with the rest composed of the usual mix
of composted manure, peat, dirt, nutrients & lime.
At least that's what I remember - if you are mixing your own, might be a
good idea to double check on ingredients.
The local greenhouse sells their own potting mix, which I've used
successfully for many things, so I trust it. I'm adding a little of
this n that to the mix as I plant, but only a tiny bit of other stuff.
About the 4 gallon pots - Betty, I think you said you weren't sure what
volume they were, but gave me the measurements, which match Morton's 4
or 5 gallon containers.
Re: Pot durability: I was talking about that with local greenhouse folks
Sat. To keep costs down, pots are being made out of thinner and thinner
material every year. Old pots last for years, not sure how long these
new ones will last.
