Re: CULT: Reemay, spot

Lots in the archives about Reemay & plant bed covers. I've used them
for years.

A year or so ago, somebody asked about life cycle of fungal vs bacterial
leaf spot. I rumaged around the web and learned a lot. Main thing I got
from it all is that fungal is more active when it's cool, bacterial
after it gets hot. I suspect bacterial spot (i.e., Erwinia) is more of
a problem farther south, fungal farther north.

The photos posted via link the other day that showed up after heavy rain
following a dry spell in summer are classic bacterial leaf spot,
otherwise known as Erwinia, soft rot, and "summer crud".

Some cultivars are much more susceptible to it than others.
Fortunately, it doesn't affect growers in summer dry areas.
Unfortunately, that apparently lets hybridizers in those areas grow a
lot of seedlings susceptible to it without realizing it.
