Ahner: I totally disagree; That what makes horse races. Roy Davidson grows luxuraiantly in every part of the country that I have heard reports. It is extremely tolerant of conditions and will even survive here in the shade and bloom although not as well as in sun. It is very floriferous and the flower with its bright yellow and dark chocolate markings is quite striking and has a great garden effect. It would not be sentiment at all that would make me vote for it. I know of no iris that grows better in a wide variety of conditions and provides more garden effect. Its sibling Phil Edinger was to my mind the less attractive and because the markings were more diffuse. But Phil Edinger won the Randolph Perry Medal because it was registered later and was not Ben's first choice.

Maybe.

won the first Randolph Perry Medal and in my mind would have been deserving of
the Dykes Medal.>>
Well, I must disagree. As a bee pod it could not have been said to be a
hybridizing breakthrough for Hager; the blossom is not remarkably handsome,
especially compared to some selected forms of pseudacorus; and the plant not notably
gardenworthy; accordingly, I don't see any compelling criteria upon which it
might have been awarded the Dykes, except sentiment, which, of course, never
happens.
