RE: BLOOM OUT

Yes, your luck with Cracken sounds very familiar. Unfortunately, so does
the rest of your story. We have had several iris that looked great when
planted and then just sat there and did nothing. Noble Dragon is one we
also lost. I think I am going to order it from him again, I really want
that iris <G>.

Are these all the same thing?

Many years ago, back at the beginning of iris time, <vbg> I had an iris
named CRACKEN. It was part onco. When I dug it there were no roots, but I
planted the rhizomes and roots appeared.

A little later I planted ORANGE STAR. The first spring it put on 5
increases. I was happy. Then, one by one the 5 increases each put up a
stalk. Pure
heaven to see 5 stalks of OS swaying in the breeze. I was happy. Weather
was
hot and dry with a stiff wind. No pollen took. I was not happy. No
increases appeared on the 5 rhizomes that had produced stalks. ORANGE STAR

disappeared.

Through the years I've had seedlings do the same thing as OS. I've
probably
lost other introductions, in this manner, in the past 20 years but none
upset me like ORANGE STAR.

Then last year, I got Noble Dragon with no increases. Never did put on
roots or increases and was dead by spring.

Barbara & Dana, my experience with CRACKEN seems similar to the experiences

you mention.
