I've seen a few moles around here, particularly under boards laying on
the ground but never enough to be a problem. Mice are something else and a
real problem most everywhere. I used Wsrfin in its pelleted form and to
keep our cats and dog from making a final meal from it I put it in a steel
pipe. I had some old 1 1/2" on hand and cut it into short lenghts about 14"
long. Plug one end with a block of wood driven in and then cut off close to
the steel so it cannot be wiggled out The other end is left open for the
mouse to enter. Put about half a cup of pellets in each pipe and place the
pipes around where the moles are doing damage. It is very important that you
place a heavy weight on the pipe so that a large animal cannot roll it
around. A dog is smart enough to wiggle a pipe until some of the pellets
come out. I use a 50 lb concrete building block on each pipe and even an 80
lb dog cannot move it. One pipe at each apple tree ensures it will not be
girdlied. Should work for iris bulbs and rhizomes too. Make sure the pellets
are down furtherest from the open end and have not moved when you placed the
weight on ghe pipe.
