Down here in the south, some of us speak a little red-neck.
Je-et yet? = Did you eat yet?
Nope = No
U-ont to? = Do you want to?
We also redefine a few words.
awl-is not a tool for punching holes in things but rather something you pour
in your
car or pump out of the ground (oil)
ya'll = you (singular) or you all (plural). Ex. Ya'll cum bak na-ow ya
he-ar.= Please
come back and visit us again.
arn-means iron. I need to arn a shirt.
ain't = are not We ain't gonna go nowhere this evnin. = We don't have any
plans this
evening.
yonder = anyplace not in your immediate area. My sister lives over yonder a
piece.
= My sister lives close to me.
Another unusual thing down here are the things some people name their
children. For instance, none of the people are named, David, Mark or Linda.
Instead they are Billy-Bob, Jimmy-Joe or Bobbie-Sue. Want proof? Have you
ever heard the Buddy Holly song "Peggy-Sue"?
Additionally, we also speak a little Tex-Mex (Texan & Mexican)
Hey vato - (hey guy) - Hello, my friend.
Que paso - (what's happening) - What is going on?
De nada - (nothing) - Not much.
Sta bueno - that's good.
