In a message dated 96-09-22 05:33:17 EDT, you write:

I agree that regions need to be included somehow in awards systems. (!!!)
Especially since the southeast seems to have its own special kind of rot.
Something like not giving awards to iris that don't receive commendations
from all regions. Or, as I suggested previously, a 'veto' vote as well as a
commendation vote. An iris may do really well in 3/4 of the regions voting,
but rot like crazy, refuse to grow, or refuse to bloom in the other regions -
that regional 'poor performance' needs to be factored in somehow. So,
without having seen the awards ballot to know what it currently looks like, I
suggest adding a column for each variety under consideration that is a
'negative' consideration, rather than just positive ones. Or giving a lot
more weight to performance (in all regions) in the evaluation system and a
lot less to show stalk characteristics. Or add an award that is just for
performance. Or add an award that only iris more than 10 yrs old qualify
for. Or...
Clarence, do you still have all the previous list discussions we had about
the awards system?
