VIOLET HARMONY was *REGISTERED* in 1948 and *INTRODUCED* in 1952. Two iris
'birthdays' are used, mainly for keeping track of eligibility in the AIS
awards system.

The registered date is when the hybridizer lists the cultivar name with AIS
and the cultivar is considered to be a *named seedling*. The name is unique
to that cultivar and can not be used again.

When the iris is placed into commerce (offered for sale in a catalog or
Bulletin) it is considered to be *introduced*. As a matter of convention
and convenience, the date used in cultivar descriptions is the
*introduction* date.

The AIS registrar must keep track of when each iris goes into commerce and
the venue in which it is first offered to the public. SOMETIMES this
process drops through a crack, as it did with VIOLET HARMONY. Rest assured
VH made her debut in 1952.

Mike Lowe, introduced 13 December 1937
