Rodney, charcoal briquettes wont do you any good! In fact, they may hurt
the plants, as almost all of them are treated with chemicals to keep their
shape, and start the fires quickly. You need to get ACTIVATED Charcoal from
a garden or aquarium supplier. You can buy a 50lb bag quite cheap, but
there IS a big difference in the two products. I use it in orchid potting
mix extensively, as you are feeding them fertilizer each week, and not using
any soil- just rock and charcoal and bark. (kinda reminds me of
hydroponics, same principle)
But the pool idea sounds great, I may try that for some next year when I
refuse to promise to not buy any new plants. Tho I DO get to buy ONE
blooming orchid for the wedding, at a huge sale this weekend in Dallas.
(Does he REALLY expect me to stop at ONE???) But anyway, use ACTIVATED
charcoal, not briquets.
And it did rain on my trip to the Dr. yesterday, and I did get wet and didnt
melt, but I didnt have to water when I got home!
