Will Roundup work in Texas?? >>

Yes, Round-up works here in Texas. In fact I will make a confession here and
maybe others will profit from it. We let the bind weed get away from us this
summer (I didn't weed for 1 month) and the iris disappeared under the bind
weed and wild bermuda. So, in desperation we decided to spray everything
with round-up. I had talked with several old timers in the society and they
had assured me that iris will not die from round-up. So, I went to work.
Overall the results were good. Unfortunately, these old timers must be Mr.
Only's because even though the TB's handled the round-up fairly well the
SDB's in particular did not. I am wondering if this is why I have the sudden
rise in rot. Having never dealt with it before I have now lost @ 10 clumps
and have several others that are looking decidely unhealthy. Most of these
are fairly new SDB clumps. I have one bed in a different area that I never
got around to spraying and the iris in it are reproducing better, greener,
just happier in general. It is hard to know if I have a sudden case of rot
(it is being reported all over town) or if the round-up caused the problem.
Maybe a combination of the two. I am hoping the unhealthy looking clumps
(foliage dying back, little or no increase) will come back with time. If not
I will have room for more goodies next year. I will continue to use round-up
but with more care. I have purchased a one sided funnel that attaches to
the spray head and shields the plant from the spray. One thing is for sure.
The bind weed recovers from the round-up much quicker than the iris do.
