I don't see why a barrel wouldn't work for LAs. I grow someof mine, and
some LAs in a bog that is basically scraps of pond liner lining a scooped
out area beside my pond. I filled the lined area with a 2" layer of sand,
then a 2' layer of peat, then topsoil. It is *not* leakproof--it just
holds water better then the rest of the area. And so far the irises
appear to be thriving.
