Re: Fertilizers (Texas kind)

I am north east of Austin, south east of Lubbock, near Tyler. I fertilize
when I plant, with bone meal. I fertilize in the spring with more, if I
remember. I fertilize with Miracle grow, the kind you throw in the sprayer
and attack everything in the yard, porch and beds, about 2 weeks ago. I
will probably put more bone meal out in late Oct/early Nov. We dont seem to
have a rot problem here, and have never seen any borers in the irises, tho I
had some in an established veggie bed, when I planted tulips to overwinter.
But I think they were just garden variety borers, not iris borers (is there
a difference?).

We havent had much rain lately, tho it has been cloudy and looks like it- it
will today since I am on the motorcycle and need to go to the Dr. 45 miles
away today. I dont melt, so thats ok, I guess; wont be the first or last
time, thats for sure.

I guess I just have not come up against the rot situation, so I have always
just fertilized a lot- the soil here is not real fertile. Good compost pile
going for the new herb beds to go in this winter, but the iris beds just
have to be weeded, feeded, and tended for now.

I would love to hear from some of the Washington state folks privately. I
have land in NE Wa, and plan to move there soon and garden SEVERELY!! Would
like to discuss local notes there. Thanks.
