Carolyn, although I agree that all insecticides should be used with care,
Cygon is one of the mildest systemics on the market.  Rumors have persisted
for years that it is going to be banned by EPA, and I assure everyone this is
not true...at least not the U.S. EPA (my former work associates at EPA are
the source for this information).  What state epa's do is always another
matter...when a state puts Iris pseudacorus on the native endangered species
list (as Maryland once did!), any eccentricity or silly action is
possible...but I do not know of any at present.  I am a strong believer in
environmental protection, but I don't think Cygon is a threat.  I do
appreciate the views of those who prefer using no chemicals, but its not for
everyone.  I don't think I could grow tall bearded irises if I could not use
