Re: degree-days

Now to the serious part:
Have any of you made any resarch in how many days of a certain
temperature, it takes to get a Iris to grow its stalk from scratch
to it blooms.
And what the 'deadline' is, what minimum teperature it demands to
grow at all??? (for TB for example)

*** you CAN'T be serious!!

absolutely not!!

Seriously, there are just too many variables to be able to measure this.
Variables in the soil, water, plant structure, to say absolutely nothing about
the air temperature!! But in general, soil temperature is the criteria
for setting growth. I will wager that someone some where has determined
a sort of minimum/maximum growth to bloom time. They can do it for tomatoes,
why not iris??
The soil temperature for ANY plant to sustain growth is 50 degrees, F, don't
know what that is in C, about 10 degrees C.

But it's a really good question -- the people who hybridize should have some
idea -- ask the big LIST!!

If you don't, I will (if I remember)
