good by/Medit-Plants list

Irisarians -

I joined this list a few days ago, just to see what you were about
and to find out a little information. Thanks very much to those who
answered my queries. This seems like a nice, friendly group. I
even met a few old 'net' friends again! Unfortunately, I cannot
deal with the added e-mail, so I must sign-off.

I note that there are a number of Bay Area folk on this list, so as
I go, I hope you do not mind if I 'plug' the Medit-Plants list, a
group I helped create over a year ago, devoted to Mediterranean
climate gardening. Irises are welcome additions to gardening in our
area (good for rebloomers!), and there is always more to learn about
which species or hybrids might be appropriate to this locale.
Medit-Plants is not as busy as this group, so if perchance Iris-L is
not enough e-mail for you, maybe you'd like to visit us. ;-) I
include the basic Medit-Plants info below.

Nice to have met you folks!

            The MEDIT-PLANTS Gardening Discussion Group

In the proliferation of gardening discussion groups on the INTERNET,
Medit-Plants was designed to cater to interests of those gardeners
in Mediterranean or related climates. As our seasons are often
directly opposed to those of harsher climates, the concepts of how
plants grow often quite different as well. Experiences from other
gardeners throughout the world who deal with mild, relatively wetter
winters (fostering active growth) and dry and sometimes sun-baked
summers (often our 'dormancy' period) have already been quite
interesting, and the palette of plant material we each use is at the
same time consistent and unexpectedly different, helping each of us
to see our gardens in a new light. There is also the enjoyment of
seeing foriegners delighting in our native plants as much as we
delight in theirs!

At the time of this writing (9 January, 1996), the group currently
has the following international subscribers:

220 Americans (U.S.A)('.COM', '.EDU', '.GOV', '.NET', '.ORG', '.US')
  16 Australians ('.AU')
   2 Belgian ('.BE')
   6 Canadians ('.CA')
   4 English ('.UK')
   1 Frenchman ('.FR')
   3 Germans ('.DE')
   3 Hollanders ('.NL')
   1 Hungarian ('.HU')
   2 Italian ('.IT')
   1 Israeli ('.IL')
   1 New Zealander ('.NZ')
   1 Polish ('.PL')
   1 Portugese ('.PT')
   2 South Africans ('.ZA')
   1 Spaniard ('.ES')

While we often have to deal with very different gardening
conditions, as evidenced by our discussions, there does seem to be a
common veiwpoint and interest that has made this a vital and
interesting group.
