Re: Beardless i.d. by foliage


One way to ID Louisianas is to hold the foilage up to a bright light and look
thru it.  You can see obvious reticulated columar striations in the green area.
This kinda looks like little rectangles stacked end upon end. Having a medical
background, these look like columnar epithelium cells, but large enough to be
seen by the naked eye.   I found these while holding up a leaf looking for those
"spots" that others have been talking about.  After pulling off other LA leaves,
I noted that all of them in my garden have them.   I'm surprised that other
"leaf -lookers" haven't noticed this, because I'm as blind as a bat!    I havent
noted these little rectangles on JIs or Sibs and don't know if they exist on
other beardless irises.  

All you other "leaf-lookers" take a look at your LAs and other beardless irises
and let me know if you see what I see!
