Re: spurias and aril-breds?

<< Our droughty summer and having to water with our very alkaline
irrigation water had me wondering about getting some aril or aril-bred
iris (for the dryness) and some Spurias (for the alkalinity). I saw
some Spurias in a "A-to-Z" bulb catalog, but wondered if you would have
specific species or hybrid suggestions, as well as aril-bred
 suggestions. >>

Having the same conditions you mentioned I can tell you that both Spurias and
Aril-breds do well here. AB's are kind of tricky. If you get fall rains I
would tend to stay away from any that are over 1/2 Aril. They really don't
like much water during their dormant time. Most of the hybridizers list the
Aril content in their iris. Sharon McAllister has a nice listing of AB's
that give you a lot to choose from.

Hope this helps, Dana Brown Lubbock, TX Zone 7
