I am no expert at LA's but I can tell you what is working for me. I have my
LA's in 6" deep 3ft x 2 ft tubs. These tubs have no drainage holes in the
bottom. We have high heat and only about 16" of rain a year here. Our soil
is very alkaline as well. Therefore, I used a potting soil for acid loving
plants and feed them with Mir-Acid. I water them twice a week. I am
happiest when they have a little water standing in the tub. I feed them in
the spring after they start growing about once a month and keep this up
through the end of bloom. I then lay off the fertilizer and cut the water
back a little until they start to grow again in the fall. I have heard that
you can rot them if you keep them too wet during their dormant time but, if
they grow in the swamp how can that be? Any way so far, that is working for
me.
