Donald
I grow a dark, dark blue-purple, very fragrant 18 1/2-21 inch IB that has
foliage narrow enough to resemble an MTB. Also has a flexous stem most
years. Blooms before most modern IBs, and is large-flowered, so I've classed
it as IB-It has dark purple haft marks on a lighter ground parallel to the
beard, which is blue-white. Its anise scent has led friends to suggest it
might be BLACK MAGIC, though it's never rebloomed, and is not a super
vigorous grower for me. 3-4 buds. No ID yet on this.
SUSA is a large-flowered dark red-purple, with very dark haft markings on a
dramatically lighter ground, 18 inches, bushy blue/ old-gold-tipped beard .
Three buds this year.
Back issues of ROOTS, the HIPS newsletter have some great pictures of IBs.
