Hi Dana, I grow a lot of Hebe's, and they are definitely not Australian 
natives. I think there may be some native to New Zealand, or perhaps Africa. 
We have hot, dry summers, and Hebe's are very happy in such a climate. They 
are compact, with pleasant shiny green leaves, and small, attractive 
flowers. They used to be known as Veronicas.
