Well that is why the query. I tend to vacation with general ideas rather
than rigid itineraries. So at this point my plans consist of initially
centering
in Buenos Aires with one firm trip planned to Iguazu Falls on the Brazilian
border, which is going the tropical direction. Irises may be a better bet
going the opposite direction. BA itself gets very cool (low 30s) in the
winter, but seldom actually freezes tho I understand they did have a rare
freeze this past winter (our summer - sounded pretty good to me at the
time). I thought I had remembered reading somewhere that there was a
contingent of iris growers there, but can't remember where I ran across
it and can't find it, so it might have been my imagination or I might be
confusing with something else I've read. Certainly there were irises which
had bloomed and were still in bud when I visited Mexico City last Feb and
they also have mild winters, and it surprised me. I wasn't expecting that.
Somewhere in Argentina they must have really good iris growing conditions.
I thought perhaps someone from the list knew already. Then I could make
plans.
