Donald,

The following information is from Currier McEwen's "The Siberian Iris",
published in 1996:
"Monica Poole reports that siberian irises are not well known in Argentina
but grow well if given extra water. She tends some modern siberian hybrids
from seeds I sent her years ago but finds that in most gardens, the irises
encountered are more often than not older, tall bearded cultivars. Except
for her own seedlings, such siberian irises as are grown also tend to be
older cultivars, such as 'Perry's Blue' and 'Caesar's Brother'. There is a
garden club in Buenos Aires but no society devoted to irises, no
hybridizers of siberian or other irises, and no public displays."

The latitude of Buenos Aires is approximately 35 degrees South; Sydney is
about 34 South and Auckland is about 37 South. Perhaps our Australian and
New Zealand friends can give you an approximate idea of what might be in
bloom iriswise when you are in BA.
