Re: SPEC: Gerald Darby seedlings

From: Bill Shear <BILLS@hsc.edu>

'Gerald Darby' is fully fertile self-pollinated and also with virginica and
versicolor. I do not find much variation in the seedlings. After raising
a raft of these, the only one I saved was a nice powder blue with darker
blue veining from 'Gerald Darby' x I. virginica alba. The stems are not as
dark as 'Gerald Darby' and it does not have the purple-based foliage. I
think a worthy goal for breeding in this line would be darker stems and
more purple in the foliage--all-purple foliage would be a killer plant
destined for immediate great popularity--think of it planted next to the
yellow-variegated pseudacorus in early spring.
