Lucky, Dennis. In the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, it appears that
major flooding took place and I64, US60 and US460 are all closed because of
flooding at various points. Many trees down and 250,000 without power.
Further west here in the Piedmont, Floyd fizzled. We had a breezy day
yesterday, with moderate rain until about noon, when the clouds began to
break. Our heaviest rain was on Wednesday and overnight, totalling about
6". Considering that predictions early in the week called for 12" of rain
and winds to 80 mph, we were all happy about our good fortune.
However, a walk among the iris this morning showed much rampant rot. A lot
of work this afternoon with a sharpened teaspoon and Comet, before leaving
for a long weekend in Chicago.
