Wow ! After reading a article in the Home and Garden section
of the Amador Dispatch this Sunday 9/19/99 I thought I would share it with you,
for comment and/or. I have typed the wording rather then a attachment which some
might not receive.
Article Title; " Dividing Iris
Bulbs
1. Divide iris bulbs ( actually they are Rhizomes ) in
the late summer or early fall, or whenever there is crowding.
2. Cut leaves to 6 inches or so.
3. Dig up rhizome clumps, but do not break them or tear
up the roots. Wash the rhizomes thoroughly and do not let them dry out.
4. Cut rhizomes as illustrated. Do not make
divisions too small or blooming will be delayed.
5. Keep rhizomes out of sun. Replant immediately.
6 Prepare new soil to a depth of about a foot. Use peat
moss or compost. Create holes large enough to keep roots from being crowed.
Rhizomes should be just beneath soil surface.
7. Pack moistened soil around each rhizome. Do not keep
soil soggy".
The Illustration showed the iris being divided at the original mother
rhizome leaveing older growth still attached to the division in my opinion.
thank you for your time Bill
