HYB: STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN (was OT), pollen

I have never been able to get pollen or set pods with STAIRWAY.  Has
this been a problem for anybody else?  

Not like that's unusual for me, but I have tried a bit more than with
some others.  DUSKY CHALLENGER also never (I've checked for about the
last 5 years) makes pollen here, but I have a batch of seedlings from
CRYSTAL GLITTERS pollen and another lister said it never made pollen for
her.  I have managed to get a couple of pods on DC.  Wouldn't dare try
to put pods on CG - it's too close to death most of the time.  Has
wonderful spring freeze tolerance but doesn't like the summer rain and
drought cycles much.

Any suggestions on how to encourage pollen production?  Or thoughts
about why CG makes pollen for me and not farther north towards the east
Coast?  And why DC wont' make pollen here, but seems to everywhere else?
