Linda Mann asks about performance of some historic ancestors.
I grow MALAYSIA (Ghio '74 so not quite historic yet?). It has so
far been a poor grower and bloomer. Had weak fans and a short
and not very strong stalk last year. Last year was the first year
and it has stressed during our summer. Down toward the bottom,
in fact.
MOON RIVER was also new last year. Has grown well and done
well this summer compared to many. Looks pretty strong at the
moment. Did not bloom the first season.
Isn't TOBACCO ROAD infamous for rot? I seem to recall reading
that it was on several occasions. I pretty much had the idea that
it was blamed on so many of the brown irises being subject to rot
since it was used extensively in breeding for brown. Hope I'm not
slandering it unfairly. If I had the time, I might could dig out what
I think I remember, but I'll bet Dr. Zurbrigg knows.

Texas Zone 7 - who will consider trading blister bugs and grasshoppers
for any ant except fireants. The bbs found the new arilbred bed I planted
yesterday and LIGHTS OF ARABIA is now in the dark. Grasshoppers
also found it and laid over some fans. Argh!
