Janet and Arnold, so glad I now have an excuse to forget! There are so many
things crowded into my feeble brain, I'm happy to know only 7 ideas can live
at one time!
Janet, I certainly synmpathize with your drowning irises/. This summer it
was too hot to plant - they didn't grow - I actually dug up one iris to
check! - we were on water restriction ---- and THEN came Floyd, with more
water than we knew what to do with! Even this faraway, it is too wet to
plant, my garden needs a sponge mop. There was one bed where the newer
planted rhizomes were beaten up to 2" into the ground by the pounding rain,
and a helper had to scrape aside the top soil to expose the rhizome and then
to haul off the excess to the compost pile. Someone saw it and asked where
had I gotten that wonderful topsoil!
The tree is still down across my garden and will stay there. I heard, until
it is dry enough for a crane to cross a neighbor's lawn! They are lifting
it out! The irises, where I had thought they would have to step to work
around the tree, have been moved to pots (an idea taken from what someone
said about potting on iris-talk and I dragged up from beyond the 7 items(!).
These are mmy rebloomers too, so I amy lose rebIoom!. I phoned the treeman
and asked what else I could do to make life easier for him - his reply was
that they wouldn't be in the garden -- that they would "walk up the trunk".
Since we have rain in the forecast all week, I can see it will be sometime
before I can tell what state of health my prize trees and shrubs are in! How
I sympathize with eastern N.C.!! Rosalie nr Baltimore zone 7
