I would very much appreciate some advice from you wise medit-planters on a
couple Erigoron questions.
A tall (5') white Erigoron (unknown species) spontaneously appeared by my
front gate two summers ago, presumably dropped by a bird from seed from
someone else's garden (unfortunately, I don't know where). It's a nice
plant, but attracts too many bees for the location. Not being one to turn
down a free plant (or weed, for that matter) I dug it up and put it in a
pot, to use it in the cutting bed I'm putting in, in my very-overgrown back
yard. I didn't allow it to go to seed, BTW, and I lifted the surrounding
plants to try and make sure I caught all the roots. Problem is, it's now
coming up in the old location, and even in cracks in the sidewalk 3 feet
away. I don't mind if it spreads SOME when I put it in the back yard, but
does anyone know this particular type and whether I would regret it if I
put it back there?
The second question: I also grow Erigoron speciosus grandiflorus, a
low-growing purple one that's native here in Western Oregon. I've never
let it set seed, either, because it seemed like it would make an awful lot
:-), and, being native, I wondered if it would be invasive (too?). I'm now
considering planting one in front of my rental house, where I won't be able
to deadhead it. Anyone know if the seeding would in fact be a problem?
