Michael - I'll just add that several Hibbertias are possible outside
in really mild UK gardens. I grow H. scandens, The Guinea Flower,
outside here by the Solway in Cumbria. I know Mark Brent at Lamorran
House, St Mawes, Cornwall, grows several spp and I rather think H.
aspera was one of them. You might try dropping him an e-mail -
MARK@mbrent.fsnet.co.uk. He's a nice as well as knowledgeable guy and
would, I'm sure, offer any info. and advice he could. My H. scandens
seems to do well here in a warm, sheltered but quite shady s/w corner,
backed by walls in both directions. It makes about 8ft. As Einion
says, max. drainage. And with more sun - and more heat than Cumbria
can offer - it might make a good deal more than 8ft. I should add that
it hasn't been through a really hard winter yet (maybe only down to
-3C at most) - and I suspect it wouldn't.
