For those members of the list in the San Francisco Bay
Area, I just wanted to mention that the local chapters
of the Succulent and Cactus Society and Bromeliad
Society will be having their annual sale this weekend
(10 am to 4 pm), in Golden Gate Park at the Hall of
Flowers building, at the corner of Lincoln and 9th,
south side of the park. If you are looking to find
that unnusual Echeveria or other succulents, it is a
great shopping opportunity.
There will also be a very nice selection of bromeliads
for sale, including those which can be grown outside
here. I was up in Coarsegold, California at
Tillandsia International this past weekend helping to
select blooming plants for the sale, and it even
snowed while we were there. I couldn't resist the
temptation myself, and returned with several hundred
dollars worth of hardy blooming Tillandsias such as T.
stricta, T. bergeri, T. ionantha, T. gemniflora, T.
tricolor, T. tenuifolia, T. somnians and T.
imperialis, so the large plum tree in my backyard is
festooned with new additional color again. It has
also added to my resolve to start regularly
fertilizing the hundreds of Tillandsias I already
have, to get more bloom. I had to carefully place
each so as to be out of reach of marauding raccoons
which have been climbing the tree to munch on them,
and so far, so good.
Hope to see some of you at the sale this weekend, I'll
be there on Saturday helping out, with name tag so you
can identify me.
