Hmm, Liz, if your winter temperatures don't drop much below 30 degrees,
Archontophoenix cunninghamiana would be a good choice. To keep them
looking nice, it's best if it never drops lower than that. I have one, and
it got a bit singed on the new spear, and the leaves were 90% burned, but
i'm willing to take that risk, and the low here was 27 (it didnt show
major damage until then). The spear is coming out nicely, and is only
burned on the tips, the crownshaft is fine. 

It's native to Australia (i'm sure you know) and one of the most
attractive palms i've seen
