Re: clematis

My sister, in the North of England, moved house last autumn and with that took  her 26 different types of clematis, all of which survived the experience, and they had been huge before they were cut almost to the ground.  I bought a few this spring from a specialist nurseryman who advised me to chop them down to six inches, which I did with no ill effects.

Best of luck Lorraine

Also from Greece, warm days, very cold nights at present.
And we had snow as well this winter.

Subject: clematis

To the medit- plants enthusiasts,

Is it possible to move a clematis that is at least 4 years old but small, as it is planted in too shady of an area?  It has a vine of about 1 yd or meter and is a dark red variety that I would hate to lose. How deep would you have to dig around it's roots? It's neighbor, a pink clematis is at least 7 feet and doing very well.  It has full sun on its top.

Thanks for your help.

In the country above Athens, Greece where it is sunny now and where there were record snows of over 1 meter this year.
