clematis

To the medit- plants enthusiasts,

Is it possible to move a clematis that is at least 4 years old but small, as it is planted in too shady of an area?  It has a vine of about 1 yd or meter and is a dark red variety that I would hate to lose. How deep would you have to dig around it's roots? It's neighbor, a pink clematis is at least 7 feet and doing very well.  It has full sun on its top.
