Re: wilting snapdragons

Hi Lorraine,
I'm in Greece too, and I find that my snapdragons (in a large terracotta
pot) are doing exactly the same as yours, but I can revive
them by almost drowning them. I wonder, too, if the torrential rain
we've had lately has washed nourishment out of the soil, so I have
fed them as well.

Hi Both
It would be my guess that a part of the trouble might well be that those
torrential rains not only washed out the nutrients, but may also have
drowned a lot of the roots as well.

Plants which have lost roots in this way will afterwards wilt faster
than usual whenever things begin to get dry. Extra watering and food
will help them to replace the lost roots, but avoid highly soluble
fertilizers, which might be a bit hard on new root growth, and instead
use a mixture of slow release fertilizer and foliar feeding with
something gentle like fish or seaweed extract.(the latter applied only
after generous application of plain water).
