Yes, a superb catalogue, and this has reminded me to send for the
latest version. I would thoroughly recommend Olivier Filippi's
catalogues to the group as a good read (beautifully illustrated) on
lavenders, not to mention all the other plants. But I expect his nursery
is already very well known both to those fortunate enough to live within
travelling distance and those further afield.
I have another lavender question. I recently posted the Lavandula line
with a request for common names for lavender in different countries
where it grows wild. The Upson & Andrews monograph on Lavandula
includes common names where known but I'm interested in adding to
this stock. Spain and Portugal provide rich pickings, not surprising
when we consider that Spain alone has 25 native species and
subspecies of Lavandula, not counting some rare hybrids. ( I include
the Canaries, where there are 5 endemic species). I hadn't thought of
it quite in this way before, but am sorting out a talk for a Spanish
audience and it has made me look more closely.
I'd be glad to hear from anyone off line if this is felt to be too much of a
specialist area.
