I was looking at various websites about native California grasses (I'd

just planted some Nassella pulchra (purple needle grass) earlier), and

heard about using Deschampsia caespitosa (tufted hair grass) as a

lawn. Now, my experience with this is that it likes to hang out at the

edges of vernal pools, although it will go dormant if let go dry. What

I'm wondering is, how much is needed say, per square foot? It's a

clumping grass (and I know that lawn mixtures with clumpers have to be

seeded thickly), so just how much seed would one have to put down to

get a decent lawn?
