RE: Seasons, scents etc.


Yes Samantha you should be able to grow Banksia coccinea in Adelaide, 
it grows well in Perth but won't flower!
It will flower up to 3 degrees latitude north of Albany but that dosen't
include Perth!
A real shame for anyone in Perth but it makes us appreciate those
beautiful flowers when we see them!
Poiciana's will grow in Perth but need protection from the colder
extremes, I know of a couple that are truly spectacular when flowering,
and a couple that are obviously a bit miserable about their locality and
only put out a few flowers each year.
The best soils for all these Proteaceae are sandy well drained soils
with no added phosphorus (it retards or even kills at extreme levels).
Water well for the first summer or two and they should be fine :-)
