Poinciana


I don't know the Latin names but I am talking about the big,
lush Poinciana of course, not the little rather spindly and
short-lived one. I should think, Samantha, that in Adelaide you
might have to shelter it through the first couple of winters, as
you need to do in Perth. I have lost two which dropped their
leaves in Autumn and never recovered. On this occasion I was
going to cough up the money for an advanced tree, grown under
shelter and hardened off outside for a couple of years - but
common sense got the better of me. You should see the specimen
around the corner from our house, though!
