Poincianas

Wht species of Poinciana are you growing? Delonix regia? and

Yes Joe, the Poinciana I wanted to plant (but am not going to
because of its spread of 10-15m) is the Delonix regia or
"Flamboyant Tree". The other plant which my mother grew under
the name "Poinciana" is actually Caesalpinia pulcherrima, I am told.

I live in Nedlands, a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, where
the climate is classic Mediterranean (wet and fairly cool
winter, hot and practically completely dry summer). Being near
the Indian Ocean we do not have frosts here, but a winter night
can drop to almost freezing and there can be cold blasts from
the Antarctic which can kill off a small unprotected plant.
Hence the importance of buying the Poinciana tree already a fair
size and hardened. Once established, it seems they do well here.
