Re: Persimmon (Kaki) (Diospyros kaki)

Yes, I'm sure just about any gardener in the western USA can. The
publishers of Sunset magazine have for many years been improving upon
the most useful and most widely used of their many how-to books, THE
WESTERN GARDEN BOOK, the first reference for many gardening enthusiasts
here. The book is an encyclopedia of plants suitable to the various
climate zones of the eleven western states. The editors map out and
describe twenty-four different climatic zones and specify the zones in
which each plant is likely to prove successful. The system is far more
precise than the USDA zone system and has been of great value to all of
us. The editors at Sunset are not ALWAYS correct. There are many plants
which grow quite well here in zone 17 that they do not list for this
zone, for example, but the book is tremendously useful, nevertheless,
and improves with the years. A new book of theirs applies the system to
the whole of North America. Wallace Gorell, Berkeley, CA, USA
