Gai's post led me to check up, which I should have done before I
posted in the first place . . .
Gai is right, of course; the Tasmanian leatherwood is E lucida, not
what I said. Also, as she says, there is another Tassie species,
E milliganii, similar but with smaller leaves and flowers.
Thus there are three Australian species, not two like I said, the
mainland species I mentioned being E moorei, the plumwood, which I've
never seen that I know of, though it's supposed to grow here in the
Illawarra in a few places along the crest of the escarpment (its
northern limit).
There are about six S American species.
