I'm so pleased with one of my unexpected flower combinations -- I'd like to
share it.
I planted some 1 gal artichokes in the fall. They went into a new bed, so
they looked pretty desolate, so I seeded some California poppies around
them. I've also been experimenting with cover crops, and threw in some
crimson clover seeds. Now, six months later, the effect is incredible!
The clover have tall red plumes along with their broad green leprechan
leaves, while the poppies are about the same height, but stop-light orange
with the gray-green feathery foliage. The artichokes rise above both of
them and look absolutlely regal! It's one of those spots that all of my
visitors stop and gape at. Funny thing is, I had no idea if it would work!
Try it, I bet you'll like it, too!
Nan
P.S. Sorry I haven't included the botanical names. If anyone wants them,
please contact me privately!
