Re: Buckeyes

The A. californica have the palmate leaves like the other buckeyes do.
I have a small one im trying to turn into bonsai, therefore the leaves
are smaller than on a wild tree. However the california buckeyes have
10 inch leaves, which they drop in very early summer. If they get
watered the can keep their leaves but its interesting seeing them
leafless when all the other deciduous trees have leaves. The seed pods
are smooth usually having one to two seeds. The Flowers are white,
fragrant and about 6 inches long. They do however spread wide, and they
have branches that touch the ground. They are very nice with their
silvery trunks though. The sound of falling seeds is interesting. The
seeds also sprout very readily ive walked along a cow trail lined with
the trees and seen hundreds of seeds witht heir first root already out.
